After months of speculation and whispers, new photographs and a bit of information (courtesy or Redditor u/TenLevels confirm the imminent release of the Miyoo Mini Flip, the fold-in-half-able version of the infamous Miyoo Mini.

The device is much smaller than the recently revised Miyoo Flip, and truly earns its name, looking like an adorably enlarged Funkey S. The Mini Flip is expected to feature the same hardware as the Miyoo Mini V4, including an ARM Cortex-A7 dual-core SOC (clocked at 1.2GHz) and128MB of RAM. Presumably it will also feature the v4’s gorgeous 750×560 IPS display, and based on earlier photos from Miyoo’s Instagram, it will have a teeny tiny bezel.

If all this proves to be true, there is hope that custom frontends like Onion and MinUI will work out of the box. Personally, I’m psyched. As a follower of the hobby since the late 2000s, the original Miyoo Mini pulled me into the scene like no other device before it. It delivered a combination of portability, power, and community enthusiasm that attracts me to the hobby still, and now we seem to be getting that same experience in an even more pocket-friendly design.

Miyoo Mini Flip vs Flip

The Miyoo Mini Flip will be available in four colors: White (with pastel buttons), SNES Grey, Pink, and Yellow. As far as the important details, we still do not know a release date or a price, but it is clear that development is underway, as retailer Keep Retro has seemingly received at least one unit back in July (pictured above next to a Miyoo Flip).

By the time it launches it will be competing in a much busier market than the original Mini debuted to. There are Anbernic’s two options, PowKiddy’s revived V90S, Funkey’s offering and Miyoo’s own, larger, Miyoo Flip. Will Onion support and familiar hardware be enough to make the Mini Flip a success? We can’t wait to find out.
