Well, would you look at that. Seems that Mangmi isn’t trying to be a one-hit wonder. Following the success of the Mangmi Air X in the sub-$100 market, the company has decided to come back out and announce its next big handheld. Or at least what we assume will be a larger handheld.
In a similar pattern to a lot of handhelds from these emulation companies, their first announcement isn’t too much. A singular screenshot of a handheld shrouded in darkness with a cheesy tagline right above it all in the Mangmi Discord. There’s not much to go off of, but from what we can tell, it’s possible the Pocket Max is going to be a larger handheld than the Pocket Air.

Alongside the speculation of size comes the speculation of performance as well. The immediate estimation for the Pocket Max is the Snapdragon 865. This is being speculated as the Pocket Max has, in fact, been showing up on Geekbench for a few months at this point, and when compared to the Retroid Pocket 5, their scores wind up within spitting distance of one another.

If that’s the case, and it’s all speculation at this point, we’re looking at another handheld from Mangmi that should have pretty solid support from third parties when it comes to producing a Linux-compatible software suite. However, at this time, it’s pure guessing and shots in the dark.
As a whole, what we’re looking at is going to be reminiscent of Retroid performance, mixed with AYANEO/KONKR styling, and at this point, I’m all here for it. Especially if the Pocket Max manages to come in at a lower price point than the current Retroid Pocket 5/Pocket Flip 2 options.
In any event, Mangmi is either going to drip-feed more information to us in the coming weeks or they’ll simply dump it all at once. Regardless of what happens, we’re prepared to update and continue sharing our findings in the future as more information on the Mangmi Pocket Max surfaces.
