Gothic is already one of my all-time favorite games, so seeing the Gothic 1 Remake finally get a proper release date trailer feels almost unreal. THQ Nordic has locked in June 5th, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, inviting everyone back under the barrier to the Valley of Mines.

What really sells this for me is how much it builds on that playable prototype demo from a few years back. That early slice was rough around the edges, but it was enough to convince me they actually got Gothic’s atmosphere, its cruelty, its janky charm, and that feeling of being a nobody clawing their way up the prison food chain. Knowing that proof-of-concept has now grown into a full remake, especially after the heartbreaking closure of Piranha Bytes, hits on a different level. It feels less like a cash-in and more like someone making sure this world doesn’t just vanish.

The new trailer leans hard into exactly what I want from a modern Gothic: an oppressive prison colony where power, obedience, hierarchy, and violence rule everything, with the different camps, the Old Camp “rulers,” the New Camp idealists, and the Brotherhood fanatics, all still grinding against each other. Visually, it’s a massive upgrade, but the tone implies this is not some sanitized open-world checkbox game.

With Piranha Bytes gone, this remake suddenly feels like both a revival and a eulogy, a chance to walk back into Khorinis with fresh eyes, while knowing the studio that birthed it won’t be the one greeting you at the gate. For me, that makes June 5th less “another remake date” and more of a pilgrimage I’ve been waiting years to make.
