The second annual game jam hosted by Orc Face Games, Dream Disc ’25, opens at the start of next month and closes at the end of next February. This jam allows game developers, tool creators, and hardware builders to develop projects that utilize the Sega Dreamcast ecosystem.

The game jam takes place on Itch.io and the Orc Face Games Discord server, where participants collaborate, create, and share their works-in-progress. Once all submissions are in, the jam enters a review phase where participants can test submissions and leave feedback. After that, there will be a judging phase where a group of judges will rank the submissions.

This is interesting because the rules allow for creativity, freedom for developers, and an opportunity for participants to show off their skills using free/low-cost development tools such as KallistiOS, Raylib4DC, etc. Participants cannot submit fangames without first obtaining the proper permissions for the IP in question.

A portion of the submissions will receive prizes in the form of monetary compensation (the amounts are currently listed as $0 until further donation is made) and/or inclusion on a physical CD-ROM called the Dream Disc ’25 CD-ROM, which will be distributed worldwide. The top submissions will be selected to be placed on the disc. Last year’s jam was collected on the excellent Dream Disc ’24.

All submissions must meet the requirements of being able to load and run from the Dreamcast’s CD-ROM filesystem. The archive submitted to the jam must contain a specific folder structure, and the submission must include a disc artwork image. Additionally, the submission must implement an exit combination (START+A) in order to be compatible with the CD-ROM filesystem.

If you are a retro-game developer who has been itching to make something for the Dreamcast, this is your chance to do just that. Create a new platformer, create a utility for the VMU, or even experiment with hardware. Dream Disc ’25 provides a platform, a community, and a unique experience to have your work featured on a physical disc. Submit your project at the Orc Face Games Discord and donate to the prize pool at the Prize Pool Donation Page.
