It’s finally time to fire up the hype train, as AYN has just teased not one but two lines of devices. In a post over on Instagram (thanks, Mr. RetroGameCorps), the AYN Odin 3 has been officially teased, along with another supposed device that will carry the name of “Thor.”
UPDATE – 8/19 1025 PM: AYN Thor Screen Info
There’s nothing quite like starting and ending your day with a bit of AYN news. After surprising us all with the Odin 3 and Thor announcement, AYN is already back at it sharing more details. This time, it’s another graphic, but just for Thor. The dual-screen Android handheld will feature a top screen with a 6-inch AMOLED panel, complete with a FHD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, we also have an OLED display on the bottom, measuring 3.92-inches and locked to 60Hz.
UPDATE 8/19 9AM: AYN Thor Video Trailer
It’s almost becoming a joke at this point, but after dropping the teaser poster a few hours ago, AYN has since released its first video trailer for the AYN Thor. This won’t be a Mini version of the Odin 3, but instead is yet another clamshell dual-screen handheld, set to compete with the AYANEO Pocket DS.
Not too many specifics about Thor can be gleaned from the video, besides the fact that it will have active cooling, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. If anything, I’d be willing to bet that the Pocket Flip 2 served as a base, before AYN took over and made the necessary adjustments to accommodate the second screen and additional controls.
Of course, this is just the first mention of either device from AYN directly, so naturally, it’s pretty scant on details. However, the poster’s tagline is “Next-Gen Features Arrived” with “Thor | Odin 3” highlighted in the middle, and today’s date listed at the bottom.
As soon as I saw Russ’ post, I ran over to the AYN Discord, where there are now dedicated sections for both Thor and Odin 3. Initially, I wasn’t sure what kind of device Thor could be, but it seems that it won’t be a return to x86 handhelds for AYN, as that suggestion was shut down pretty quickly.
Then someone else mentioned “Thor, Son of Odin,” and it kind of clicked. We could be in store for an Odin 2 / Odin 2 Mini situation, with the Odin 3 remaining as the “flagship” and Thor coming in as a more pocketable alternative.
There is some speculation that Thor could be AYN’s answer to the AYANEO Pocket DS, which just launched on Indiegogo and has already been quite successful. While it’s definitely possible, I think the Odin 3 Mini idea is more plausible. But that’s based on nothing more than pure speculation and a gut feeling.
Seeing as it’s been over eight months since the Odin 2 Portal was released, AYN was definitely overdue for a new handheld announcement. And with today’s teaser, it seems like the company is finally ready to share what it’s been working on.

I’m hoping they also release an Odin 3 Mini with an AMOLED. I think the Thor is pretty cool but I just want a powerful Android handheld, with a single screen, in PSP format.
I’m not sure how popular the Minis were, I assume nowhere near the likes of the Odin. I suppose if sales were low they would have no incentive to make a 3rd and shift their manufacturing towards a dual screen.
Still pretty happy with the original Odin 2 pro. I don’t think it’s even been 2 years yet since it came out so unless the Odin 3 does something crazy I’ll probably just wait for the Odin 4 in 2027.
