During the Ayaneo Sharing Session on August 29th, a last-minute mention was made about a 4:3 device coming soon from Ayaneo. While not much was shared on the Sharing Session (ironic, I know), it was later shared during a livestream on September 2nd that the new device will be the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini.

What Was Shared in the Session

Outline of Ayaneo 4:3 Device

  • The device will have a 4:3 aspect ratio, widely considered one of the best for retro gaming
  • The device will be released under the Code R series
  • The device will be on the smaller side
  • The device will use a brand new screen that has not been used in other devices
  • Marketing materials will be released in September for the Code R Series

Follow Up

Now, just a few short days later, we know that the secret device is the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini, a smaller version of the Ayaneo Pocket Air that looks nearly identical to its larger sibling, albeit with a D-pad top configuration. This would be the first device released under the Ayaneo CODE R series, which Ayaneo has stated will be a budget-minded series of gaming devices.

Furthermore, a post was forwarded by multiple RH Discord users from the Ayaneo Discord that appears to be Ayaneo CEO Arthur confirming that the device will come in under 999 CNY, or roughly $140 USD. If this is the case, it would easily be one of Ayaneo’s cheapest devices to date.

Arthur also apparently stated, in a response to a user during the livestream, that the screen will be smaller than 5″, which matches the stated information that the screen would be on the smaller size and not one used in a handheld gaming device before.

Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini Screen Speculation

What We Know

Not much to go on here, as we still don’t know any specs related to the Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini. It’s nice to see Ayaneo potentially releasing a smaller 4:3 handheld under the Code R Series in the coming weeks, but it remains to be seen if it is a device that will spark any interest from the community. Personally, it feels like that mystery screen is going to make-or-break this device.

If the pricing stays under $150 USD, this could be a very interesting device at a surprising price from Ayaneo, a company not known for budget handheld gaming devices.
