ASUS has confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally will start at $599, while the ROG Xbox Ally X comes in at $999.

After getting our first unofficial look at the ROG Xbox Ally in May, followed by its subsequent unveiling alongside the ROG Xbox Ally X in June, the wait is almost over. We also already knew that both of these handhelds would arrive in mid-October, but until now, the price remained a mystery.

The standard ROG Xbox Ally at this price doesn’t really come as much of a surprise. The Ryzen Z2 A probably won’t win any awards for performance, and we suspect it’ll provide similar results to the Steam Deck.

However, the same can’t be said about the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X, as this is essentially the ROG Ally 2. That’s thanks to the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip powering the upcoming handheld, and is the same chip as you’ll find in the MSI Claw A8 and Lenovo Legion Go 2.

Some have already been able to get their hands on handhelds powered by the Z2 Extreme, such as ETA Prime. When comparing the Z2 Extreme to its predecessor, ETA found that the Z2E mostly outperformed the Z1 Extreme in synthetic benchmarks. But only after bumping up the former to a 25W TDP, as the Z1E managed to outperform its successor in a couple of categories at 15W.

However, this specific batch of testing was with the MSI Claw A8, which only recently launched meaning there’s room for the Z2 Extreme to grow as driver development progresses. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to get our hands on the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally to pit them against some of our personal x86 handhelds.

Xbox Mode Incoming

Lastly, this release isn’t just significant because it’s the latest handheld from ASUS. But both of these devices will be the first to launch with Microsoft’s new Xbox Mode on Windows.

Updated Xbox PC app with Aggregated Gaming Library

Surprisingly, this has already been floating around in the x86 handheld space after it was included in a recent Windows 11 25H2 Release Preview build. Because of that, practically anyone can install it on any Windows handheld, provided that it’s compatible with Windows 11.

This new Xbox Mode is Microsoft’s attempt at creating an all-in-one experience, similar to Steam Big Picture mode or ASUS’ Armoury Crate. The difference here is that while Xbox Mode is launching with the ROG Xbox Ally X and Xbox Ally, it will eventually (officially) be made available for other gaming handhelds.

Pre-orders for both of these handhelds are available starting now, and you can find them using the buttons below.
