UPDATE: Anbernic has officially rolled out the first OTA update for the RG477V ahead of the launch. The v1.35 update includes the following:
- Optimize the system fix known bug.
- Add CPU scenario “Performance Mode” and optimize performance strategy.
Hopefully these will solve the issues that Stubbs found in his First Look video, but we’ll have to wait and see.
As luck would have it, there’s one more handheld making its way to everyone before the new year begins. We can now confirm that pre-orders for the Anbernic RG477V will commence on December 20 at 5 AM EST, with Early Bird pricing starting at $199.
Like the RG477M, the RG477V will be initially available in two different configurations, with an 8GB/128GB model along with a 12GB/256GB version. For the first 72 hours after pre-orders launch, the base model will set you back $199, with the 12GB RG477V coming in at $239.99. Once the 72 hours has elapsed, both options will retail for $219 or $259, respectively.

If you want to get an idea of what to expect, you can head over to the RH YouTube channel (or click the video above) and watch Stubbs’ first impressions. During the livestream, he covers a variety of different topics, and even includes a quick look at gameplay performance. However, you can expect to see more content on the RG477V once review units make their way to the team and Rob the Retro Tech Dad.
So far, it does seem as though Anbernic has a bit of work to do in order to provide an optimized software experience. However, Gamma has already received his developer unit, and managed to get GammaOS up and running, fixing some of the issues with the “stock” Android build.
We suspect review units will begin appearing any day now, so be sure to keep an eye out on more content and information once it’s in our hands.
