Well, it looks like Anbernic is getting back to a crazy release schedule, as the RG40XXV was just released and another handheld is on the way. Now, the Anbernic RG406V has been revealed, bringing about the long-anticipated successor to the RG405V.

Not much has been revealed in the way of specs just yet, as Anbernic loves to trickle out a little bit of information. That being said, the announcement did confirm a few of the specs for the RG406V.

• Supports 1080p Output via USB-C
• Bluetooth 5.0

If it weren’t obvious from the video, this is another Android-powered handheld, offering another layer of flexibility. The 4-inch screen makes for “PS2 games to be displayed at 1.5x” scaling, while the RG406V is also said to support Wii and 3DS games. Although Anbernic stopped short of sharing what processor is being used here, we can assume that the T820 will be at the helm.

According to the video, the RG406V is coming in three different color options at launch, Transparent Black, an off-white shell, and an SNES-style. Unfortunately, it seems that Anebrnic is ditching the beloved wood-grain case from previous iterations.

Waiting for Pricing

While we expect Anbernic to reveal more information in the coming days, the RG406V comes at a curious time. Not only are we nearing the retail launch of Ayaneo’s Pocket DMG. But, Retroid has been dominating headlines with the announcement of the Pocket Mini and Pocket 5.

Not to mention that the company just released a vertical handheld in the RG40XXV. Of course, the RG406V is much more powerful and performant, but we have to wonder if it makes much sense. I suppose it will really come down to price. For reference, the RG405V is priced at $130, so we expect something similar from its successor.

UPDATE: Official Promo and Specs Revealed

We weren’t sure when Anbernic would be attempting to reveal more information about the RG406V given all of the hype surrounding the Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini. However, earlier today, the company dropped a quick “promo” video, while also sharing all of the specs.

Now that this has been revealed, we can pretty much assume that pricing and pre-order information will arrive any day now.
