Would you believe me if I said Anbernic may be having another handheld coming out soon? Youtube channel NITTRX, has shared potential patent pictures for the RG406P, a horizontal version of their new RG406V.Â
The RG406V is a great handheld and it may be my favorite vertical release so far. The comments I heard from many people in the community were wishing for a horizontal version with that new screen and D-Pad. Predictably, this may be happening sooner than later.
What We Know
The patent images shared from NITTRX show what this handheld may look like. One stand-out feature to notice is the stacked shoulder buttons, this is one thing I really wish the V would have had. This will be better suited for the horizontal form factor though.Â
Another feature to note is that the analog stick is on the top on the left side and the bottom on the bottom on the right, much like an Xbox controller. I know this can be a dealbreaker for some and is something to note when looking at the patent images.
The only grip or ergonomics seen in the image are just the shoulder buttons. There doesn’t appear to be any more grip to make it more ergonomic, something I feel like the RG406V did very well despite the bulky look of it.
Things We Want To Know
Some questions still remain from this little tease. Will it use the same screen as the RG406V? That was a great screen that should hopefully be used again. Also, will the D-Pad be the same? The D-Pad has been a great joy to use and hopefully, this is the same one.
Where in the handheld world does this device fit? With the release of the RP Mini and RP5 by Retroid, will there be a spot in some collections for this? The use of a 4×3 screen I believe will help set it apart from those and should stand alone.
Finally, are these leaks even real? Personally, I think that a new Anbernic device with the same chip and a different form factor as the RG406V is more than likely and almost a guarantee. I am excited to see more news on this.
