We knew another teaser video was going to be dropped at some point, and Anbernic has delivered. The company released its first dedicated video on the upcoming RG Vita Pro, showcasing a variety of games running on both Linux and Android.

The showcase video lasts for a little longer than six minutes, starting off with some PS2 and PSP gameplay courtesy of God of War II, Devil May Cry, Ghost of Sparta, and Chains of Olympus. Then, we see a revamped Linux interface compared to what we’ve had for the better part of the past year or two. From there, the video quickly switches over to show the RG Vita Pro running Android, which we know actually comes courtesy of Gamma.

A variety of different games are shown off for different platforms, ranging from PSP and PS2, before pivoting to some GameCube and Nintendo 64 emulation. There was even a segment where the RG Vita Pro was shown playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Wii, which isn’t something I quite expected to see.

That’s because the RG Vita Pro is powered by the RockChip RK3578, which just so happens to be the first “retro” handheld to make use of this chip. However, at least based on the gameplay from this video, it seems like we won’t have the same frustrating performance issues as the standard RG Vita.

Anbernic RG Vita - Game Boy Advance

While the gameplay video shows a lot of promise for the upcoming RG Vita Pro, we still don’t yet know when it will be released. More importantly, Anbernic has yet to reveal the price, which will ultimately determine the popularity and success of this particular handheld.

It’s been quite a while since Anbernic released a dual-OS handheld, so to see this come to the RG Vita Pro is pretty refreshing. Opting for such gives the user another level of flexibility that you don’t normally see right out of the box.

I believe that Anbernic made the right decision to partner up with Gamma for this handheld. Anbernic’s Android builds haven’t always been the best, while GammaOS continues to impress whenever it’s updated with support for a new release. And from what we’ve been able to discern, other developers were provided with units, meaning that we’ll likely be able to jump between Gamma and hopefully either KNULLI or ROCKNIX shortly after it lands on our doorsteps.
