Just yesterday, Anbernic surprised everyone with the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro announcement. This evening, the company is back again, but this time, has released the first unboxing video for its upcoming controller, the Anbernic RG G01.

At first glance, this seems like just the latest controller offering to sport a built-in display. However, Anbernic decided to turn things up a notch or two, by implementing heart rate sensors into both the left and right controller handle.

Anyways, the video shows us what to expect from the unboxing experience, which surprisingly includes a phone mount that can be attached to the controller. It’s also confirmed that Anbernic is including a some replacement joystick caps in the box, particularly helpful for those who prefer taller joysticks.

Anbernic RG G01 Key Features

  • 2.5D Curved IPS Smart Screen
  • Heart Rate Detection w/ Alarm
  • 6-axis Gyroscope – Trigger/Joystick/Motion Sensor Calibration
  • Custom Macro-Programmable Keys
  • Rapid Fire Settings
  • “Purple Kirin’s” Electro-inductive Joystick
  • Tactile Switch Pivot D-pad
  • Two Stage Trigger Locks
  • Dual Asymmetric Pendulum Motor – Immersive Haptic Feedback

From there, we’re shown the RG G01 in all three color options, before moving onto some of the controls and the display. One nice feature that I’m particularly interested in trying out is being able to customize and remap the controls right from the controller, as opposed to downloading an app on my computer. Speaking of which, not only are there four rear paddle buttons, but there are also four more buttons found below the D-pad and right joystick.

As the video progresses, the RG G01 is shown being used with a variety of devices, ranging from a desktop PC to the Switch 2. Apparently this can even be paired and connected to compatible Linux handhelds, like the RG40XXV. For some reason, the idea of using a controller but playing on a small handheld is pretty funny.

It’s not until the end of the video that we learn a bit more about how RG G01’s built-in heart rate sensors actually work. The software will let you set heart rate thresholds, notifying you of the moment when you rage quit and your heart rate spikes.

Unfortunately, despite being a six-minute video, Anbernic still has yet to share pricing and availability information for the RG G01. As soon as we find out, we’ll be sure to share the information with everyone.
