A new neon-soaked duology is coming to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Radical Reflux has released Magenta Sky and its follow-up Welcome 2 The Machine, two tightly linked adventures that kick off the u_nvrz saga and are designed to run on original 48K hardware as well as later Spectrum models. Together, they follow Clark, a would-be rebel trying to survive under the watchful eye of the oppressive u_corp and uncover the secrets of project u_nvrz.
Magenta Sky, the first episode, is a stylized platformer-adventure where Clark earns his place among an underground resistance by infiltrating enemy systems and securing a secret source code. It leans hard into a distinctive, high-contrast look and mixes careful traversal with its potent story beats. The game was built for the Spectrum and supports 48K, 128K, and compatible machines, with a free download on itch.io and ongoing devlogs teasing where the larger u_nvrz arc is headed.
Welcome 2 The Machine picks up right where things went sideways. Clark has been captured after the events of Magenta Sky and is now imprisoned inside a top-secret underground facility literally wrapped around “The Machine.” You’re breaking out solo this time, navigating a heavily guarded complex, probing deeper into u_corp’s plans, and learning more about what u_nvrz actually is. Under the hood, it was built with Jonathan Cauldwell’s Multi-Platform Arcade Game Designer, with graphics created in ZX Paintbrush and SevenuP, plus a soundtrack by Alone Coder.
Both games are available digitally via Radical Reflux’s itch pages, so if you’ve still got a real Spectrum on your desk, or you prefer loading TAP files in an emulator, both games look like a hell of a time.
