Developer Jörg Karwath is working on Lemmings Reloaded, an enhanced remake of the puzzle classic for the Commodore 64 that aims to push the platform significantly beyond what the official port achieved. The project currently includes over 55 themed levels with contributions from pixel artist The Wilds and music by Nordischsound, a C64 chiptune composer.
55 levels done – many more to come!💪

Any idea how to solve this? And who can spot the second hut?😊#Lemmings #Reloaded #C64 pic.twitter.com/ZrGPSWKtM7— Jörg Karwath (@joeyvc64) January 30, 2026
The original C64 port of Lemmings, released by Psygnosis in 1994, was functional but limited by the hardware constraints of the era. It featured basic sprite handling, minimal scrolling, and stripped-down sound design compared to the Amiga original. Karwath’s version addresses these limitations with full-screen soft scrolling, a technically demanding feature on the C64, along with detailed sprite animations for all lemming actions like digging, bashing, and building.
The remake also implements multi-channel SID music and sound effects that play simultaneously, plus complex level design with moving objects, elevators, and dynamic interactions. Previews show themed environments including jungle levels and what Karwath describes as a “demonic underground,” all rendered with custom pixel art that takes advantage of the C64’s color palette.
Cheers to a happy & healthy 2026!🥳
Thanks to The Wilds @JohnHen65953721 and @Nordischsound for their great support to this game💪 Just amazing what is going on here!❤️ #Lemmings #C64 pic.twitter.com/sk33sodNcd— Jörg Karwath (@joeyvc64) December 31, 2025
Karwath has been sharing regular updates on his X page (formerly Twitter) throughout development, with the most recent posts confirming 55 completed levels and even more planned. The developer previously released Mars Patrol, an arcade-faithful C64 port, and Super Amok in 2025. No release date for Lemmings Reloaded has been announced, but the project remains in active development.
