In a new release from AYN’s Discord regarding the AYN Thor, they continue to support its breakthrough dual-screen release with a new OTA update, batch 2 shipping update, and batch 3 cost changes as a response to the rising cost of memory. While these updates should be a cause for excitement for existing batch 1 and 2 orders, new Thor buyers will, unfortunately, get a glimpse into the realities of the current RAM market.

AYN Thor V1.0.0.360 OTA

As of right now, you can download the update through the Thor’s built-in update app in Settings. This update includes a myriad of user-requested changes and quality of life improvements. Some standouts are:

  • Fan adjustments in performance modes
  • Third-party launcher visibility on the lower screen
  • Better HDR handling
  • Updated EQ for better bass
  • Anti-image retention features for the OLED panels (massive user request)
  • Additional charging options

AYN Thor Update - January 13

It is noted per AYN that this update will juristically throw off the battery charge number, so it’s recommended to power cycle your device after updating. Just let it die and recharge it.

Shipping and Price changes

Thor shipping

Your long-awaited batch 2 orders will be shipped at, or around, January 15th! Very nice! Batch 3 orders will open on January 20th, but will also mark the end of the Early Bird Pricing with prices going up +$10 for the Lite and Base ($260 and $310), and +$20 for the Pro and Max ($370 and $450) models.

Not very nice!

AYN cited rising memory (RAM) costs as the driving factor behind ending its Early Bird pricing, so I would expect other companies and devices to follow suit in the future. As of now, there is no ship date for Batch 3. In the meantime, AYN is still selling through its Batch 2 stock, so now is a good time to get your Thor!
