The last two days have been quite the frenzy around these parts, as Retroid surprised us all by announcing that the “Future is Now.” That future, we learned, came in the form of the Retroid Pocket G2 and Pocket 6, the company’s latest handhelds and successors to the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini.
We even started the weekly Retro Handhelds Podcast a few minutes early as Rob, Stubbs, and myself went through the ordering process, as has been tradition in the past. However, while the Pocket G2 will begin shipping this week, the Retroid Pocket 6 won’t actually arrive until January 2026. And it turns out that the RP6 design isn’t actually finalized, as Retroid is doing a bit of crowdsourcing for some potential changes to its next flagship gaming handheld.

Apparently, Retroid received enough negative feedback to warrant this kind of response, basically allowing the community to “call the shots,” so to speak. One of the issues revolve around the placement of the buttons and speakers along the bottom of the RP6, with some affectionately saying it reminds them of an old PSP and looks like an “ugly DVD player handheld.”
Ok ok, we heard you. You’re not happy with the current RP6 design. So, we ask you to vote on which design you would like. There are two polls in this tweet. Make sure you vote on both! pic.twitter.com/CZmMbluU3K

The other complaint seems to be surrounding the placement of the controls on the left side. Some aren’t a fan of the left stick being on the bottom, and would prefer for it to be swapped with the position of the D-Pad. So if you feel strongly one way or another, now’s your chance to voice your opinion using the poll embedded into the Twitter post.
At the time of this writing, we have a 61% / 39% split across more than 4,800 votes, in favor of the Left Stick being moved to the top. And with more than 4,600 votes already tallied, over 70% of people want to see the Retroid Pocket 6 made to look more like the RP5 as opposed to introducing a more unique design.
So click the link above, cast your votes, and then let us know what you decided and why? We’re interested to hear more about why some might prefer the RP5-like design, or if you don’t care about the design and just want the D-pad and joystick to be swapped.

David also floated the idea of maybe offering two skus for the more popular colors so people can choose dpad on top vs dpad on bottom. Hopefully we’ll know more tomorrow
I voted dpad on top and new design but also requested offset sticks on their X comments section given that they are listening to our feedback, it wouldn’t hurt to ask right? I would argue that with offset sticks the dpad on top wouldn’t be bad even for those who like the stick on top. Hopefully they can do so, even if they increase the width by one inch, maybe give us larger dpad and buttons while at it.
