For those of us who enjoy the hit animated television show Futurama, a pretty fun project under the name Futurama: Hit & Run just released a demo for their total conversion mod. Based on The Simpsons: Hit & Run game originally released on the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox, this mod aims to create the Futurama universe with the look and style of the original game.

Trailer

The trailer focuses mainly on Fry wandering around various areas of a beautifully detailed New New York City. We get a glimpse at platforming and driving sequences in the game, similar to the ones found in the original Simpsons: Hit & Run, but with a Futurama flair. There’s a lot of impressive detail and references here, which fans of the show are bound to be excited about.

Demo Details

The mod is available to download for free from ModBakery for those who have a copy of The Simpsons: Hit & Run base game. While the idea of exploring New New York City is tantalizing just by itself, modders Slurm Team have rebuilt this game from the ground up, with 3D models made from scratch, and have included a list of features that can be expected if you decide to play the demo:

  • 4x story missions
  • 1x bonus mission
  • 1x wager race
  • 3x street races
  • 4x costumes
  • 6x vehicles
  • 9x gags
  • 1x secret gag
  • 25x wasps
  • Custom music
  • Custom map (~¼ of NNY)

Note: the project does mention that the demo incorporates AI-generated dialogue as temporary placeholders for the original voice actors.

What’s Next?

Considering that the Slurm Team refers to this as a “demo,” we can likely assume there is more to come in the future, but we’ll have to wait to find out more details. Here’s to hoping we can get a full game in the Futurama universe!
