We recently reported on Nintendo announcing the discontinuation of gold points within its My Nintendo platform, and how Switch vouchers are not applicable to Switch 2 games. The company has now announced that the program is coming to a halt completely in early 2026.
The Switch Game Voucher program allowed gamers the ability to buy a set of vouchers that could be used to purchase two full games for a clean $100 USD. This would naturally save customers about $20 compared to most games’ original MSRP.
Deal or No Deal
The games available through the voucher program were all ones published by Nintendo themselves, but that alone was a deal in itself. Nintendo titles rarely, if ever, go on sale. Be it official or through third-party retailers, the games typically stay closer to their original price than games from other publishers like Ubisoft or Microsoft.
The Switch 2 has been a roaring success for Nintendo, and the stock is steadily replenishing all around the world. The voucher program was a major contributor to sales of Switch games when the original was current, but a replacement program has yet to be announced.
Replacement Soon?
However, if Nintendo were to announce a new program for Switch 2 titles, now might not be the best time to do so. Currently, there is only one entirely exclusive Switch 2 game that is published by Nintendo: Mario Kart World. However, by this time next week, Donkey Kong Bananza will join that list.

When the Game Voucher program was originally announced, Nintendo was already a solid two years into the Switch era. The Switch 2 may see a repeat of history, at least from the point of view of timing, or it may be the end of the idea of vouchers altogether. For now, only Nintendo knows.
Gamers looking to buy vouchers have until 11:59 PM on January 30, 2026, so there’s still a good bit of time until you have to resort to paying full price for digital Switch titles. Although it does beg the question: what’s next?
