Today’s an exciting day if you have one of Anbernic’s RG XX handhelds, or the Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini. ROCKNIX has just rolled out its latest update, version 20250115, bringing with it so many new changes that it’s enough to make your head spin.
Kicking things off, this is the first stable build of ROCKNIX to officially bring support to Anbernic’s lineup of H700 handhelds. According to the changelog, these are the currently supported devices:
- RG35XX 2024 / Plus / H / SP
- RG40XX V / H
- RG CubeXX
- RG34XX
- RG28XX
So that’s pretty much Anbernic’s entire lineup that has been released over the course of the past year. Until now, KNULLI and muOS have been the de-facto custom firmware solutions, but we’re excited to see ROCKNIX added to the mix.
The fun doesn’t stop there, however, as this latest version brings a bunch of changes to the Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini. There are three particularly exciting changes on board, starting with the addition of RPCS3, bringing PS3 emulation to these handhelds. Now before you get too excited, keep in mind that there’s no guarantee that even all of the games on the RPCS3 compatibility list will work.

When ROCKNIX initially launched on the Retroid Pocket 5, we couldn’t believe that Xemu was available, and apparently, it’s getting even better. The changelog states that “Xemu now supports Vulkan, resulting in [a] big performance increase.” I’m excited to see how much of a difference it actually makes because I’ve largely been using my Pocket 5 as an Xbox emulation handheld.
The third change that I’m excited about is that the ROCKNIX team has now included Dolphin QT, which brings along with it RetroAchievements. This update was rolled out a few months ago for other platforms, and considering how much everyone loves their cheevos, it’s great to see this arrive on the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini.
As long as you have a compatible device, you can head over to the ROCKNIX GitHub now to download the latest update. Just make sure you download the correct file according to the device that you want to use to either flash or update this latest version. Otherwise, you might find yourself needing to start from scratch, which wouldn’t be particularly great.
