Never the company to stay out of the news cycle for more than 5 minutes, Anbernic has announced three new color options for the 35XXSP. Everyone’s favorite flip started out with translucent black or blue options, along with an NES-inspired scheme, and a silver/gray. The new options as seen below will be clear/white, neon green, and red. All of them are in the 90s translucent iMac style that these handhelds go so nicely with.

In our review of the 35XXSP, Andrew wrote “let me put things to you this way – this is the retro handheld you should buy. It’s already replaced all of my other non-Android and non-x86 handhelds. The RG35XX SP is really that good, and it’s going to get even better with custom firmware.”

I’ve had an SP since launch and really don’t have a bad word to say about it. As soon as I fired up the Kirby it transported me directly back to being bored working at Circuit City and playing the Game Boy SP demo kiosk for hours at a time. Anyone who grew up in that handheld era will likely have a similar associative memory that the SP can bring out, and if you weren’t around then, you get to experience it with a whole flourish of modern quality-of-life improvements.

35XXSP New Colors

The 7 color options now available on the 35XXSP

Great community additions like muOS have only made the device more attractive in the time since its release. It will be interesting to see if there are any internal hardware revisions along with these new color options to address any community feedback they’ve received over the last several months.
